How to Set Up Your BuzzTV Box: First-Time Setup and Factory Reset Guide
Share
New BuzzTV streaming box? Setup takes about ten minutes. This guide walks you through first-time setup step by step, and shows you how to factory reset the XRS 4500, XRS 4000, XR 4500 and XR 4000 series if your box ever needs a fresh start.
Step 1: Connect the hardware
- Connect the included HDMI cable from the box to a free HDMI input on your TV.
- For the most reliable streaming, plug an Ethernet cable from your router into the Gigabit LAN port. Wi-Fi works fine too — position the external antennas upright.
- Connect the power supply and turn on your TV, switched to the right HDMI input.
- Insert the batteries in your BuzzTV remote.
Step 2: First boot
- On first start, follow the on-screen wizard: choose your language and time zone.
- If you skipped Ethernet, pick your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
- Let the box check for updates — BuzzTV delivers Android security patches and app updates over the air (OTA). Install anything it offers before you continue; it only takes a few minutes.
Step 3: Set up the BuzzTV app
Open the BuzzTV app from the home launcher and enter the login details supplied by your TV service provider. The video below walks through the portal setup screens on the XRS 4500, XRS 4000, XR 4500 and XR 4000:
Once you're in, explore the channel list page, set your favorites for one-button access, and try the Video on Demand grid. Boxes running BuzzTV 5 also support PVR recording and TimeShift — pause, rewind and fast-forward live TV.
How to factory reset a BuzzTV box
Box acting up, or preparing it for a new home? A factory reset restores original settings in a few minutes. Remember to note your login details first — you'll need to re-enter them afterwards.
The short version: open Settings → Device Preferences → Reset (called "Backup & reset" on some models), confirm, and let the box reboot. XRS and XR series boxes also support full system backup and restore, so you can save your configuration to a USB drive before resetting and restore it afterwards.

Quick troubleshooting tips
- Buffering? Switch to wired Ethernet, or move to a model with Wi-Fi 6 like the X5 AX-C or X5 SS.
- Remote unresponsive? Replace the batteries first — then re-pair via Settings → Remotes & Accessories.
- No picture? Try another HDMI port and confirm the TV input; the boxes support HDMI-CEC so your TV remote's input switching may move things around.
